Attorney James Weaver started his Lake Wales, Florida law firm 40 years ago and continues his practice today. We sat down with him to talk about the beginnings of his practice, and his ongoing dedication to the firm’s staff and clients.
Thank you for taking the time to sit down with us, and answer some of our questions! Let’s get right to it. Most of your early work took place in a courtroom. What inspired you to get out of the courtroom, and work with clients one-on-one?
While I initially trained and practiced as a litigator in Atlanta, I found that I far preferred legal work outside the courtroom, helping clients in their personal and business endeavors. For the past three decades my work has centered on helping my clients, now friends, in their estate planning, in handling their real estate transactions, and in settling their probate estates. Since 1997, I have consistently received an “AV” rating, the highest rating permitted an attorney in the Martindale-Hubbell legal directory.
Congratulations! That’s a long-standing honor. How would you describe your work environment, and how does this atmosphere benefit clients?
Our office atmosphere is relaxed, but professional. I try not to micromanage employees, but to micromanage the work product. While no one likes a stuffy office, we all like, and expect, our client relationships to be proper and mutually satisfying. As attorney and staff, we all know what the standard is– client satisfaction for each matter entrusted to us, and the challenge is to earn and deserve that satisfaction day in and day out.
Can you tell us a little bit more about your employees?
I have four employees– three legal assistants and an intern planning to attend law school next fall. I have practiced law for about 40 years, and I cannot remember being surrounded by more competent, dedicated people in all that time. I hope that I inspire them, because they inspire me.
